MRV Methodology & Verification Protocols
From smallholder residue collection to accredited lab assays and sub-surface soil incorporation: how Intelisha verifies durable, high-integrity carbon removal.
Intelisha maintains an immutable SHA-256 hash-chained audit log of every plot, weighbridge receipt, pyrolysis run, and soil application. No carbon credits have been issued, sold, or retired to date. All credit volumes shown in pilot simulations represent unissued forward pipeline capacity.
7-Step Field-to-Credit Verification Flow
Every physical batch follows this sequential protocol before being submitted to registry registries:
Smallholder Plot Registration & Deforestation Screening
Field agents record 4-to-8 vertex GPS boundary polygons for every enrolled plot in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Plot geometries are checked against satellite canopy loss layers to guarantee zero recent land clearing.
Feedstock Collection & Mobile Weighbridge QA
Non-fodder crop residue (cotton stalk, chilli stalk, rice straw) is collected directly from field edges. Electronic weighbridges record gross/tare weights with calibrated moisture meters (rejecting residue >20% moisture).
High-Temperature Controlled Pyrolysis
Biomass is thermally decomposed in continuous, oxygen-depleted pyrolysis reactors operating between 600°C and 700°C. Thermocouple sensors record continuous temperature telemetry to ensure uniform carbon aromatization.
Accredited Laboratory Quality & Durability Assays
Representative batch samples undergo third-party laboratory analysis (CHNS-O elemental assay). Standard thresholds: Total Organic Carbon (Corg) > 70%, H:Corg molar ratio < 0.40, PAHs < 4 mg/kg, and heavy metals below European Biochar Certificate (EBC) limits.
Subsurface Soil Incorporation on Mapped Plots
Biochar is applied into agricultural topsoil (10–15 cm depth) across mapped smallholder plots to enhance sandy soil water retention. Application events are logged with GPS tractors and timestamped geotagged photos.
Life-Cycle Net Carbon Removal Quantification
Gross removal is calculated from dry biochar mass and fixed carbon content (1 t C = 3.667 t CO2). Deductions are applied for collection logistics, tractor diesel, pyrolysis electrical parasitic load, and 100-year degradation decay factors.
SHA-256 Chained Cryptographic Provenance
Every record—from plot creation and weighbridge ticket to laboratory assay and soil application—is hashed with SHA-256 and chained to the preceding transaction's hash, preventing retroactive tampering.
Target Registry Methodologies
Intelisha aligns project documentation and sampling protocols with the following premier carbon removal registries:
Puro.earth
H:Corg < 0.70; Corg > 50%; cradle-to-grave LCA deductions; permanent soil incorporation.
H:Corg < 0.40; Corg > 75%; conservative baseline non-fodder crop residue accounting.
Isometric
Cradle-to-grave MRV; rigorous uncertainty quantification; scientific durability modeling (>100 to 1,000 yrs).
Telemetry-backed reactor sensors and physical soil verification with immutable digital records.
Global Biochar C-Sink
EBC quality conformity; full feedstock chain of custody; verified agricultural soil application.
Direct smallholder farmer benefit sharing and certified non-burning baseline proof.
What We Do NOT Claim
Carbon markets have suffered from exaggerated permanence, double-counting, and phantom baselines. Intelisha maintains strict boundaries on what we will and will not claim:
We do NOT claim that carbon credits have already been issued or sold.
The project is currently at the pre-registration pilot stage. Baseline soil sampling and reactor optimization are in progress. No credits will be generated or transferred until formal third-party VVB validation and registry approval.
We do NOT claim 1,000-year permanence without independent laboratory H:Corg proof.
Permanence claims are strictly governed by empirical chemical verification. Batches must demonstrate an H:Corg molar ratio < 0.40 to substantiate century-scale geological stability.
We do NOT divert edible cattle fodder from rural livestock.
Feedstocks are strictly restricted to woody, non-palatable residues: cotton stalks and chilli stalks (which contain toxic gossypol and capsaicin that livestock cannot ingest) and surplus stubble that would otherwise be openly burned.
We do NOT double-count farm plots or biomass volumes.
Every plot boundary is stored as a GeoJSON polygon with automated spatial deduplication. Weighbridge scale tickets are cryptographically serialized to eliminate any potential for double-claiming.
